Inverness resident Avito Miranda will be the newest member of Shoreline Unified School District’s Board of Trustees—by default, it appears. Kegan Stedwell, the current trustee representing Point Reyes Station, Inverness and Olema, is not running and no other candidates filed by yesterday’s 5:30 p.m. deadline. Mr. Miranda will be the lone Latino trustee in a school district where a majority of students are of Latino heritage. “I would like to give all parents in the Shoreline District the satisfaction of being fully heard and understood so that they can participate in the education of their children,” Mr. Miranda, who is the current president of West Marin School’s Parent-Teacher-Student Association, said in a statement. Another open seat for Shoreline’s board, representing Bodega Bay, drew no candidates at all; the board may end up having to appoint someone. Candidates for nearly all schools and special districts in West Marin are running unopposed, according to county candidacy filings, and will be elected to open seats without need of a November showdown. An exception to the trend was the Muir Beach Community Services District, where six candidates are running for three open seats on the district’s board of directors. Elections throughout the county will be held on November 3.
