“Morehead,” the second nonfiction novel and latest release from Inverness author Jeffrey Hickey, hit the shelves Tuesday. An explicitly adult novel, the story unveils the life of Dave Morehead, a young man living in San Francisco in the late 1970’s and 1980’s, during the height of the sexual revolution. While West Marin is relatively open-minded, Mr. Hickey’s new novel has proven that even its literati can be perturbed. “I actually read a chapter at Blackbird,” Mr. Hickey said. “Half the crowd went nuts with laughter, the other half went to Jude and complained that they were uncomfortable.” After the open mic night, Mr. Hickey was asked not to read from the book at Blackbird again. “One of my goals is to help the 48 percent of the country that is still homophobic,” Mr. Hickey said. “I’m trying to give them a vehicle that will make them comfortable with a more obviously gay world. That’s why I created Dave Morehead.” The new novel will be available in print, Kindle and Audio Book for the next several weeks, and Mr. Hickey will be reading from the book at 9 p.m. on July 7, at Vladimir’s.
