A local community foundation this week announced the award of more than $54,000 in small grants to 27 nonprofits. The West Marin Fund—which raises “money from the community to invest in the community,” executive director Catherine Porter says—designated the funds for the enhancement of fundraising “through improved websites, social media, donor management databases, training and other creative projects.” The recipients include Bolinas Children’s Center, Community Land Trust of West Marin, The New School at Commonweal, Environmental Action Committee of West Marin, Inverness Association, KWMR (which announced another grant this week from Public Insight Network, a project of American Public Media, for engaging youth), Marin Organic, Papermill Creek Children’s Center, Regenerative Design Institute, Shoreline Acres Pre-School, Slide Ranch, Stinson Beach Preschool, Tomales Bay Watershed Council, West Marin Commons and West Marin Senior Services. Its next grant cycle opens in April and will focus on supporting organizations trying to increase youth participation—from internships and youth-oriented services to opportunities for young people to become community citizens and philanthropists.
