The General Store in Dillon Beach was burglarized last Wednesday night, resulting in the loss of $2,300 in cash pilfered from a safe that was pried open with “some sort of tool,” according to Sergeant Mark Hale of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Hale offered few details about the case, other than to note that there were no signs of forced entry and that an investigation is ongoing. Mike Murphy, who manages the Dillon Beach Resort where the general store is housed, declined to comment, as did the resort’s owner. The theft follows three burglaries since May involving safes stolen and cash registers emptied from the Marshall Store and Tomales Bay Oyster Company, which are less than a half hour’s drive away. Two burglaries at the Marshall Store, one in May and another earlier this month, left the store down nearly $7,000 in cash. In another theft, in October, the oyster company lost almost $17,000.
