A benefit barn dance at the Dickson Ranch in Woodacre on Saturday night brought in a tidy sum, organizer Grace Tolson said. She doesn’t yet know just how much was raised for her 30-year-old Valley Toys and Joys program, but she said the dance was the biggest yet. “At one point there must have been 300 people in that arena. It was just jammed,” she said. Her daughter, Barbara Hernandez, prepared the dinner of filet mignon, twice baked potatoes and corn, the Sky Blue Band provided music, and Ms. Tolson’s granddaughters arranged the flowers and silent auction in a space strung with Christmas lights. The volunteer-led Valley Toys and Joys, which grew out of a decision to support a single local family, now supplies wrapped presents to nearly 200 children a year who submit their wishes—from art supplies to bicycles and computers.
