DON JOLLEY’S 8TH GRADE PINHOLE CAMERA CLASS AT THE BOLINAS-STINSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
For over 20 years, students at the Bolinas-Stinson middle school have studied the physics of radiant energy through the medium of pinhole photography. They begin their study by constructing cameras from a variety of cookie tins and then graduate to large-format cameras made from second-hand suitcases. Pictured here are this year’s eighth graders, posed with their cameras back in November, prior to leaving for Joshua Tree National Park. The week-long field trip brings the study of physics to one of the most photogenic landscapes on the planet, and features prominently in the school’s Outdoor Education program.
