Hundreds of dollars worth of goods and cash were stolen late last Wednesday from the West Marin Community Thrift Store, in Point Reyes Station. Though no suspects have been taken into custody, sheriffs said they have several leads, and that the theft may be associated with a string of others.

According to store manager Jane Vait, the theft occurred in the store’s backroom storage area between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday. Several items, including a laptop, were taken.

Lieutenant Doug Pittman believes the robbery could be tied to a string of similar recent incidents in the area, including a jewelry theft from Black Mountain Ranch. Pittman said an investigation is underway, aided in part by fingerprints recovered from last week’s crime scene.

Vait is shocked and saddened by the incident. “The after-effects have been, ‘Really, the thrift store?’” she said. “I mean, seriously. The programs that we help to support in this community are innumerable.” Locals have already begun to rally behind the store, which is overseen by the West Marin Resource Center. “We put up a donation jar on Thursday and we already have over $300 donated,” Vait said. “People have really come forward to support us and get us back on our feet.”
