The three-day Independence Day weekend was no holiday for Marin’s law enforcement as a spirited display of fireworks and alcohol kept patrol units on alert. Countywide, from Thursday evening to Sunday night, California Highway Patrol made nine arrests, including one Saturday afternoon D.U.I. near Stinson Beach. Seventeen cars crashed over the weekend, including a vehicle that drove off the road in the Calles, a Porsche that spun out near Bolinas and a Toyota that struck a telephone pole left leaning on a fire hydrant near Inverness. Early Friday night, sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of explosions, worrying neighbors in wooded areas. Officers found burned remnants in Forest Knolls and a shivering man in Bolinas, bleeding from a fireworks injury. Later on, deputies shooed partygoers inside after neighbors complained about an all-day rager in Inverness. The Fourth finished off with a report of a fight between three or four men walking toward Brighton Avenue, in Bolinas; when deputies arrived, they found a single intoxicated man, stumbling home to sleep it off.
