Dillon Beach Road will be under construction starting late August, with completion expected around mid-November. The only road in and out of Dillon Beach is receiving a new retaining wall about a quarter-mile west of Elephant Rock. While a section of the road was being repaved last fall, a portion was found in need of a retaining wall. A geotechnical assessment taken after the roadwork determined the ground beneath the roadway was slowly sliding out. Construction will require daytime and occasional weekend single-lane access for travelers. The project will include the construction of a 114-foot retaining wall on the north side of Dillon Beach Road, supported by 12 large steel beams—weighing about 10,000 pounds each—and another eight smaller beams. There will also be roadway shoulder stabilization work and 330 feet of guardrail installed. The $570,000 project is funded by the county’s road and bridge fund.
