A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a pickup two miles south of Tomales last Friday, the second accident of its kind in less than a week in West Marin. The Marin County Coroner’s Division identified the victim as Steven Michael Campanali, a 57-year-old resident of Penngrove. Mr. Campanali was riding his 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 sport bike at a high speed on Highway 1 near Keys Creek when he veered over the double yellow lines, crashing into an oncoming southbound pickup truck at around 6:15 p.m. First responders arrived shortly after and found him in cardiopulmonary arrest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, who was not named, was uninjured. The fatal crash comes less than a week after another in West Marin. On July 7, 22-year-old Emanuel Jimenez Romero of Santa Rosa struck an oncoming minivan on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, just west of Mount Vision Road in Inverness, after crossing over the double yellow lines. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic post-mortem examination of Mr. Campanali, including routine toxicology testing, is scheduled for later this week.
