The Nicasio Historical Society has archived hundreds of photographs of the past, but their stock of photos from the 21st century comes up short. “Our collection does nothing from that point on,” said Elaine Doss, the society’s president. That’s why the group is soliciting pictures taken in Nicasio from 2000 to the present day for its upcoming spring exhibit, “Nicasio Today.” Ms. Doss said the idea came to her during a trip to New York to see her son, and she visited a historical society. “History is daily,” Ms. Doss said. “This is a way to keep people interested. It’s about them, and it’s a way to increase our archives and get people involved. It doesn’t need to scream Nicasio…The list on our invitation has just about anything.” Pictures can be of people, buildings, events, wildlife, farm life and more; they can be landscapes or portraits, in color or black and white, traditional or experimental. People can submit up to three, and they can be for sale. The society asks for work that is ready to hang, though it also requests digital versions for its archives. Photographs should be no larger than 12 by 16 inches as measured by the outer edges, including the frame. Submissions, which are due Feb. 28, can be dropped off between 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays at the society’s office, or email [email protected] or [email protected] to make other arrangements.
