Point Reyes Station resident Rhonda Kutter has been named Supervisor Dennis Rodoni’s new aide, joining Lorenzo Cordova, who started in January. “I like to work on the local level to create change. You see the results. That’s the best place to put my energy,” said Ms. Kutter, a spirited woman involved in community organizing who will take on her new job in March. “To be part of Dennis’s team and support his vision is going to be a good match.” 

Ms. Kutter has run a massage therapy business for 30 years, with clients in Point Reyes Station and San Rafael, where she lived before moving to West Marin about 15 years ago. She also has worked as a personal assistant for Michael Scriven, a professor who lived in Inverness for many years. 

Ms. Kutter has volunteered widely with organizations like 4-H and the West Marin School PTSA and site council, and some years ago she helped spearhead the playground behind Toby’s Feed Barn. “I feel like by doing this work with Dennis, I can put my skills under one umbrella,” she said. 

Ms. Kutter has not been employed in government before, but she’s familiar with the demands on the supervisor: when she was young, her father, a civil engineer, was a county supervisor in El Dorado County—in fact, for that county’s District 4—for three years before losing a reelection bid. “So I grew up with it,” she said. (He later became a massage therapist. “He followed my footsteps,” she said.)

She has also cultivated her daughter’s interest in government; Ruby Clarke, a freshman in high school, serves on the Marin County Youth Commission. (Ms. Kutter’s husband is a licensed contractor who focuses on remodels.) 

Supervisor aides typically wear multiple hats, but their general duties include administration and scheduling, interacting with constituents and at times leading projects. Mr. Rodoni said he considered about 10 candidates for the post. Discussions with Ms. Kutter about the position originated when Mr. Rodoni encouraged her to apply for the North Marin Water District board. Eventually she interviewed for the aide position, and he decided that she would be a good fit with himself and Mr. Cordova. 

“We’re really excited to have her on the team. She’s going to be my feet on the ground” along with Mr. Cordova, he said. Though Mr. Rodoni is glad to have an aide in both eastern Marin and West Marin, he noted that didn’t mean they would only focus on their respective home turfs.
