County officials hope to create a ballot measure to raise fire and paramedic taxes in West Marin by 50 percent. Residents of San Geronimo Valley, Olema, Point Reyes, Inverness, Marshall, Tomales, Nicasio, Hicks Valley and Chileno Valley—as well as in Throckmorton and Marin City—would see parcel taxes raise to about $110 per parcel. The increase would generate enough money to retain existing paramedic services and help keep emergency response time low. A new public opinion survey of 500 likely voters found the measure might very well top the two-thirds majority needed to pass. The $24,000 spent on consultants to conduct the survey brings the total spent on similar public opinion surveys over the past four years to about $350,000.
