The Dance Palace Community and Cultural Center is accepting applications for a new executive director, a position the board of directors hopes to fill by late May or early June. The nonprofit has experienced budget struggles in recent years, and in late 2014, it terminated executive director Dan Mankin, who headed the community center for seven years. The board decided that, to carry out its strategic plan, a leadership change was in order. What experiences and skills are required of a new leader? There’s a long list, but the board is seeking someone with organizational skills, experience working with a board, at least a bachelor’s degree, nonprofit leadership experience, a knack for fundraising and a sense of humor. Though not required, the Dance Palace also hopes the new director can claim a link to West Marin, along with experience with social media and a community center. Speaking Spanish wouldn’t hurt, either. The job description says the executive director is charged with undertaking “inspiring and collaborative leadership,” fundraising, ensuring the nonprofit’s financial sustainability, building and maintaining strong relationships with the community and local groups, and making sure the Dance Palace can continue to support an array of events and programs. The community center would like to receive applications by April 24, but the position will remain open until it is filled.
