The decomposed body of a man found by European tourists on federal park land in Stinson Beach last month has been identified as Raymond Caravacci, a chatty, on-and-off homeless man who lived in town. A fleece cap found at the scene was traced to a business in Berkeley; an employee there who lives in Stinson Beach had given the hat to Mr. Caravacci a year ago. (Dental records confirmed his identity.) Elliott Kolker, a local who met Mr. Caravacci several years ago, said Mr. Caravacci talked about growing up in San Francisco and about his gambling past. He was a kind man, Mr. Kolker said, who would photocopy cartoons he liked and give them to people in town, along with sand dollars he collected on the beach. Mr. Kolker wrote some lines of verse for the departed, whose death did not involve any suspected foul play: “Old paisan from the City named Ray,/ When in Stinson rapped on/ night and day,/ Still he had a good heart,/ A good friend from the start,/ Seems surreal he departed that way.”
