The new moon of Tuesday, Feb. 17 rises over Mardi Gras with a continuing cycle of high morning tides. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday in French, is named such because it’s the time to use up all the fats in the house before the restrictions of the Christian Lenten season begin.
Hopefully, northern elephant seals are not losing fat as we enter their most active time, when much of their energy is focused on mating.…
