Legal Advertising
The Point Reyes Light is a legally adjudicated newspaper of general circulation in Marin County, with subscribers across the county. If you are required to publish your legal notice in Marin County, publishing with the Light will satisfy that requirement.
Fictitious Business Name Statements
• Use the form at the bottom of this page to submit and pay for your FBN.
• Or, take a photo of your filing and email it to [email protected]. (We will get back to you with an invoice)
The cost is $45 for one business name and one registered owner. Add $10 for each additional business name or registrant/owner. This price includes publication in the newspaper for four consecutive weeks. When your statement has completed its publication run, we mail a proof of publication to the county clerk. We also mail you a copy of that proof to keep for your records.
Abandonment of Fictitious Business Name
The cost is $75. Email the copy stamped “NEWSPAPER” to David at [email protected]. This price includes publication in the newspaper for four consecutive weeks. When your statement has completed its publication run, we send a proof of publication to the county clerk. We also mail you a copy of that proof to keep for your records. Please include your telephone number. We will email you a link to an invoice that is payable online.
Name change
The cost is $200. Email your form NC-120 to David at [email protected]. This price includes publication in the newspaper for four consecutive weeks. When your statement has completed its publication run, we send a proof of publication to the county clerk. We also mail you a copy of that proof to keep for your records. Please include your telephone number. We will email you a link to an invoice that is payable online.
All other legal advertising
$20 per legal column inch.
All legal notices must be paid in advance.
Obituaries
Our obituaries run in our standard display advertising sizes. Pricing and sizing are affected by factors such as paragraph length and inclusion of photographs. We build obituaries to fit in the smallest size we can comfortably and legibly fit them into. We can work with you to reduce the size after the initial proof if needed.
Email the obituary text and any photographs to [email protected]. We will put together a proof and quote for you. Typical obituaries range from 160 words to 1,000 words.
Classified Advertising (text only)
$20 per week for up to 20 words. Fifty cents for each word over 20 words. Two-week minimum publication run. We will bold the first few words of your listing. No formatting included. Lower-case text.

Display Classified Advertising
Display classifieds include a logo, photos, or other artwork and can be designed to your liking. It starts at $25 for 1-column-wide by 1-inch-high. Add $10 for each additional 1/2 inch.

Deadlines and payment
Our deadlines are flexible and depend on various factors week to week; however, the earlier you can give us notice, the better. We often sell out of space well before our stated deadlines.
We publish every Thursday. We like to have notice that you intend on running something no later than noon on Monday. Submissions and any changes to them need to be completed by noon on Tuesday. If advance payment is required, it must be made by noon on Tuesday.
If we have worked together before and you have a history of paying on time, we can invoice you for payment by check. If you are a new advertiser, we may require prepayment. All classifieds, legal notices, and obituaries must be paid in advance of publication.
