Point Reyes National Seashore is now recruiting volunteers for the winter wildlife docent program. Winter docents help visitors view and appreciate northern elephant seals and gray whales during their respective mating and migration seasons. They may be stationed at overlooks or beaches and perform “interpretive roves” on trails; they must have good communication skills, work well with others, be able to carry 15 pounds up to one-fifth of a mile and spend a majority of a seven-hour day standing, walking and hiking in all types of conditions. They are expected to work seven shifts on weekends or holidays between Dec. 28 and April 6. Anyone interested can download an application form at nps.gov/pore/supportyourpark/volunteer, or request an emailed form from Anela Ramos at (415) 464.5146. A mandatory three-day training will take place Nov. 16 and 17 and Dec. 7.
