Western Weekend, West Marin’s 75-year-old celebration of its agricultural roots, is back this year after two pandemic cancellations. The event’s centerpiece, a parade down the main street in Point Reyes Station, will take place on Sunday, June 5. The weekend will include several mainstays—the 4-H Club Fair, the Marin Farm Bureau BBQ, the Halleck Creek Ranch Cow Flop contest and the Rotary Club’s Chili Cook-off—but the Lions Club won’t hold a raffle for junior grand marshal. A full schedule will be available in coming weeks. The Western Weekend Committee, a coalition of local groups including the Lions and Rotary Clubs, is asking for volunteers to work at the parade and is seeking sponsorships to help fund costs like graphic design, printing and portable restroom rentals. Sponsorship forms are available at Building Supply and online at the Point Reyes Station Village Association website, www.pointreyesstation.org. Last year, organizers nixed the parade well in advance because of Covid case numbers, but Toby’s Feed Barn still hosted the 4-H poultry and rabbit show. Another beloved West Marin summer tradition, the Fourth of July parade in Bolinas, was also canceled two years in a row. The Briones Lions Club, which organizes the Bolinas event, will discuss the fate of this year’s parade at its April 1 meeting.
