In a small shop tucked behind Point Reyes Station’s main street, one resident has brought her vision to life. Jacelyn Oshiro-Rodoni, a Hawaii native who relocated with her husband four years ago, opened West of West in April to feature her new clothing line for women, which uses exclusively eco-friendly fabrics such as raw silk, bamboo and hemp. Ms. Rodoni said sourcing the fabric was the hardest part of launching the business, requiring attendance at shows all over the country. All the clothes for the line, called Avec Clyde, are manufactured in San Francisco. “Sustainable fashion is hard,” she said. “It’s never going to be completely sustainable, and so you can only put forward your best effort. I do see the industry as a whole taking a turn, though: a lot of big companies are trying to make the change.” Ms. Rodoni attended the School of Fashion at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and for years designed for a company based in Hawaii. Growing up in Oahu, she was used to warm weather, a familiarity reflected in her first collection of basics for spring and summer. The shirts, jumpers and dresses are loose-fitting but elegant and come in soft colors: blue, yellow, dark green. Prices range from $38 for a T-shirt—made from blended bamboo and organic cotton—to $158 for a raw silk dress. She is now focused on a collection for fall and winter, and she’s partnering with Bay Area artists to display pottery, jewelry, greeting cards and other wares. Ms. Rodoni, who is expecting her first baby in October, told the Light, “Sometimes it’s time to branch out, do your own thing and work for yourself. That’s the dream.” West of West is located between Mesa Road and Highway 1, with access through the gate behind Epicenter. It’s open from 12 to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays. All of Ms. Rodoni’s designs can be purchased at avecclyde.com.
