A Tomales man was charged with two counts of battery and arraigned on Wednesday after he allegedly threw heavy traffic cones at two hospital workers in the lobby of a Terra Linda hospital. He is currently in custody on $50,000 bail. Sean Hayes, 25, went to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center around 5 p.m. on Monday seeking medical assistance, but the doctor at the emergency room declined to prescribe him pain medication. Mr. Hayes was not happy; security escorted him off the premises. He returned around midnight with two five-pound traffic cones, each about two-and-a-half feet tall. “They’re doing work in the emergency room parking lot,” explained Margo Rohrbacher, a spokeswoman for the San Rafael Police Department. “They’re not those little ones. They’re really good-sized ones. The base is heavy.” Mr. Hayes allegedly threw them at two staffers, a man and a woman. The man was struck on the forearm, the woman on her knuckles. Then he left. “Security came and chased him but they sort of lost sight of him,” Ms. Rohrbacher said. Police officers called him and he later came to the station to discuss the incident, and was arrested. Mr. Hayes has previously been charged with misdemeanors for vandalism and aggravated trespassing and was sentenced in October of last year to 60 days in jail. He was put on probation through 2016, and violated its terms this week when he failed to live a law-abiding life.
