Spirited and feisty, humble and embodied, Patrick Nemec rode dirt bikes, raced jet skis, fixed B.M.W.s, fished like a pro and was always one of the best athletes on Bolinas’s sports teams. “He was poetry in motion,” said friend Dee O’Neal, who watched him grow up with her son Miles Feld. Mr. Feld said that as a youth, Mr. Nemec “was the kid who stole third base and pulled every trick in the book to make it there. He was always two steps ahead in any competition, but he was very modest about it always.” Mr. Nemec worked his way through Tam High School as a mechanic in Mill Valley, a job passed down from his father. But three years ago, he was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He had no insurance, and he worked until he couldn’t any longer. Gina Steffe, a friend since preschool, worked with Mr. Feld to organize a fundraiser in 2020 and each year since then, they have re-energized it before his birthday. As his 40th approaches on Jan. 31, Ms. Steffe is hoping the community comes together to help him once more. It had been nearly a year since a donation was made last week. The funds will help cover his medicine, supplements and life expenses. To donate, search “Patrick Nemec” at www.GoFundMe.com.
