Neshama Franklin, a librarian, radio host and Bolinas resident since 1971, has a story to tell. “It’s about my enormous collection of shoes, all of which came from the Bolinas free box,” she said, referring to a collection of over 100 pairs. Ms. Franklin will spin her yarn at the Peace Barn—the upscale venue where owners Mark and Susie Buell host the Bolinas Museum’s annual art auction—at a benefit for KWMR Community Radio called Eat My Heart Out, taking place on Saturday, April 26. The so-called supper club, which started in New York City and now is visiting a few other spots around the country, blends food and storytelling; the event’s five courses are “edible metaphors” for the narratives told throughout the meal. Storytellers for the evening include KWMR’s transmitter-wrangler Richard Dillman, singer Maria Muldaur, author Glen David Gold, the event’s creator, Eugene Ashton-Gonzalez, and Ms. Franklin (who this week won a storytelling competition at the Castro Theatre with a tale called “The Hippie Dance of Love”). Eve Love, a West Marin native who trained at Chez Panisse, and David Cook, the chef and co-owner of the Coast Café, will prepare the meal, which will include rabbit fazzoletti, green garlic soufflé and chocolate cake with candied rose petals. Ms. Franklin recounted telling Ms. Love her free box tale. “I said, ‘You can get food ideas from this?’ She said, ‘Oh yes, I can.’” Tickets are $200 and available at KWMR’s office in Point Reyes Station and online at kwmr.org. Proceeds will help the radio station meet its spring pledge drive goal.
