The substation for the Marin County Sheriff’s Office in Point Reyes Station will be out of commission for six to eight weeks for a remodel that will break ground Monday, Lieutenant Doug Pittman said. During that time, deputies will work from the Red Barn at Point Reyes National Seashore’s headquarters. But those in need of assistance should call the Sheriff’s Office and deputies can meet them at the downtown site, where one office will remain open during some of the construction work. The $360,000 remodel of the 32-year-old building includes a septic system repair, disability access improvements and a reconfiguration of windows and layout to improve security. Signage will also make the site more obvious: during a recent community meeting, Lt. Pittman noted, some residents said they didn’t know where the substation was. (It’s connected to the fire house, across from the Giacomini Wetlands.)
