The 31st annual Sand Sculpture Contest in Point Reyes National Seashore takes place Sunday, September 2 at Drakes Beach. Registration takes place at 9 a.m. at Ken Patrick Visitor Center, and judging begins at noon. Prizes, which will be awarded in several categories, will be delivered at 3:30 p.m. It’s an all-day affair for the family, but please leave dogs at home. Categories include children 14 and under, families, adult individuals and adult groups. Three prizes will be awarded in each category, along with prizes for the sculpture with the most recycled plastic, the Maggie Johnston Award for Creative Excellence, and a people’s choice award. Local celebrity judges this year are librarian Bonny White and Lagunitas Open Classroom teacher at Lagunitas School Anita Collison.
