The California Department of Fish and Wildlife invites the public to its upcoming annual salmon status update and outlook meeting, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at Sonoma County Water Agency, in Santa Rosa. The meeting commences a two-month collaborative regulatory process to establish sport and commercial fishing seasons for the year, and will provide the latest information on California salmon escapement in 2012 as well as the outlook for sport and commercial ocean salmon fisheries in the coming season. A range of alternatives will be derived from public input and will influence the panel of salmon scientists, managers and representatives working with the Pacific Fishery Management Council this spring to finalize plans.
