This weekend marks the 45th anniversary of PRBO Conservation Science’s local Palomarin Field Station. The station, located at the southern end of the Point Reyes National Seashore outside of Bolinas, has served as an important training facility for hundreds of nascent biologists with interests in birding and field study. Each year PRBO brings interns from around the world, most recently with a focus on the Middle East through a program with the US Forest Service International Program. In addition, by studying individually marked populations of songbirds for over four decades, biologists at Palomarin are able to detect population changes in a number of species and explore the potential causes of population declines. To mark the occasion, the organization is hosting an open house and bird banding demonstration at the field station from 7 to 11 a.m. For more information visit www.prbo.org or follow them on Facebook.
