Thinking ahead, how can you keep the power on at your home during a PG&E shutoff this year? A sustainability team comprised of staff from the county’s Community Development Agency is joining representatives from PG&E to hold several free webinars over the next several months to help residents prepare. The events were originally planned to be in-person, but now will take place online from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. A third will be held in August, though a date has yet to be determined. Among other topics, homeowners can expect to learn how to invest in solar, including in regard to the cost, return on investment, technical specifications and ownership versus lease agreements. The workshops will also go over the available options for combining solar with the installation of batteries, and how that technology compares to traditional generators—the route that many in Marin have already taken. The free webinars are funded by the state public utilities commission, and the best way to sign up is through PG&E’s pacific energy center’s website, at pge.docebosaas.com/learn.
