On June 4, Stinson Beach and Bolinas residents will vote on a ballot initiative to approve a $300-per-parcel schools tax, which is a $50 increase from the current rate, starting July 1, 2014. The tax provides the district with almost half a million dollars and helps maintain arts, physical education, music, foreign language and other programs. The board voted on March 5, 4-1, to place the initiative on the ballot. While the current tax doesn’t expire until June 30, 2014, Superintendent Larry Enos told the Light that advanced approval from the community helps the district with budgeting and avoids a last-minute scramble to pass the measure.
