Former Lagunitas School student and Forest Knolls resident Cory Bostjancic has been selected to play for the San Diego Padres, in the 2012 Major League Baseball first-year player draft. “It’s corny but true that it’s just what I have always wanted to do,” Mr. Bostjancic, a College of Marin sophomore, said while breaking from practice at minor league rookie ball training in Arizona. “I’ve always been a San Geronimo Valley guy, and it’s crazy to come from a small place like that to this,” he said. “It feels surreal.” The right-hander, whose fastball has been clocked at 99 mph, graduated from Drake High School and served as College of Marin’s closer this spring. He recalled playing his first games at the Nicasio field, and playing with Butch and Skip Schmitz from Lagunitas for the T&B Sports Little League team. “Now I’m playing with guys from the Dominican Republic, from Venezuela,” he said. “We’re all in the same boat and trying to work our way up.”
