The Point Reyes Seashore Lodge and Farm House Restaurant and Bar are up for sale with a price tag of $9.75 million.
“I’m just kind of getting older and there’s other things I’d rather do,” owner Jeff Harriman said.
When Mr. Harriman built the inn with his brother, Tom, in 1988, three buildings occupied by 11 individuals were demolished. Some residents at the time were not pleased, saying the razing removed affordable housing, but plans to either incorporate those structures or move them to the corner of Highway One and Bear Valley Road had been scrapped.
In 2000, Mr. Harriman proposed plans to build another three-story lodge, conference center and parking lot just north of the other one as a “gateway” to Point Reyes National Seashore. But its close proximity to Olema Creek violated a 100-foot buffer rule and building plans violated the county’s 25-foot height limit.
Environmental groups opposed the plans and Marin planning commissioners scuttled the project, citing its style and size as not “appropriate.”
Mr. Harriman said he hopes that the future owner will move forward with the plans to build the 17-unit lodge and conference center, which would need to undergo an environmental review to move forward.
