A couple suspected in a pair of burglaries in Olema and Point Reyes Station is at large, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the manager at Due West. A man and a woman were captured on video surveillance breaking into the market in Olema on the night of Thursday, Dec. 17, the same night that Café Reyes was also burglarized. The burglars used a flathead screwdriver to pry open the front door of the market and force their way into the register, taking around $350, an old iPhone and some snacks. At Café Reyes, they entered through an unlocked door and again emptied the register of about $400. The owner lives upstairs but did not hear the break-in. The sheriff’s office believes the two incidents are related. The following night, the manager at Due West saw a suspicious vehicle idling in the back of the parking lot. He approached the car, and the couple told him they were there to use the bathroom, which is at the front of the parking lot. The manager told them to get lost, and they peeled off before he could read the license plate. He described the car as a dark green Nissan Altima with a damaged side and an after-market grill. Brenton Schneider, the spokesman for the sheriff ’s office, would not confirm the manager’s description of the car or that a couple is suspected, because detectives are actively working the case. “We’re following up on video surveillance and evidence from the scene, looking to determine who the suspects were, what their motives were, and see if we can identify them,” he said.
