After a rough couple of years that led to millions in debt and vast uncertainty as to its foreseeable future, Nick’s Cove and Cottages announced last week that it has sold to a former investor who will maintain the historic Tomales Bay establishment’s operations mostly as is. Prescott Ashe, a San Francisco-based private equity investor, will take over ownership from current owner Pat Kuleto, who made numerous renovations to the resort since purchasing it in 1999. Deena Grunt, director of operations for Nick’s Cove, said she and her staff were encouraged by the sale. “It’s a nice opportunity,” she said. “We definitely aren’t making large changes, just making things better.” The sale coincides with the recent resignation of former executive chef Adam Mali, whicg Grunt said did not have anything to do with the sale. Former sous chef Austin Perkins has been promoted to the position.
