The owners of Nick’s Cove in Marshall are hoping to remove and replace the boat shack that burned down on Jan. 7 come summertime, and they’re asking locals for help. “Our plan is to rebuild as it was originally permitted and we’re currently working through that process,” said Benson Wang, a managing partner for the bayside restaurant. “We don’t have the permit, but were hoping to secure that in the coming months.” Last week, the owners launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 for the construction of the new shack, a number Mr. Wang said is likely much lower than the total cost. The owners are also seeking donations in the form of vintage nautical items that can replace the memorabilia that burned, including fishing rods, buoys, a mounted tortoise shell and a 70-year-old piano. “One thing that was particularly surprising was the amount of pianos we’ve had offered, which is great because that was a huge statement piece and such a part of the immersive experience there,” Mr. Wang said. Last week, the Marin County Fire Department declared the cause of the fire undetermined, but said “it is strongly suspected that a malfunction of the fireplace may have initiated the fire.” When asked if the new iteration will include a fireplace, Mr. Wang said he was unsure.
