Myriam Kaplan-Pasternak, the co-owner and operator of Devil’s Gulch Ranch, has devoted herself to keeping customers satisfied for decades. Due to a bout of ill health, she’s hoping her loyal patrons will pitch in to keep her 53-year-old operation going in Nicasio. Cancer treatment has prevented her from keeping up with her management duties at the ranch, which she runs with her husband and co-owner, Mark Pasternak. As a result, a few items have fallen off the ranch’s menu of offerings, including two of the most popular: sausage and bacon. The couple has started a “Bring Back the Bacon” campaign with a goal of $17,000, which would enable them to resume deli processing at a smokehouse in Fort Bragg. Myriam’s doctors are hopeful her cancer can be successfully treated. “She’s trying to do the best she can, but it’s been a real struggle, and it’s causing financial challenges,” Mark recently told the Light. Even as Myriam works to recover, the ranch continues to supply an array of meat and poultry to a long roster of Bay Area restaurants. But the bacon and sausage are best-sellers at local farmers’ markets, and the couple has heard from disappointed customers who want it back in their frying pans. If they meet their target, they could have those products back online within just a week or two. “Life has many challenges and sometimes they just pile on,” their online appeal states. “We love being farmers and are grateful for the opportunity we have to provide essential services.” To contribute, go to https://tinyurl.com/BringBackBacon
