The West Marin Fund, a new community foundation created to support the coastal towns of Marin, announced its first program, focused on youth philanthropy, last week. The initiative is designed to encourage teams of youth from 11 to 18 years old to raise money for local nonprofits and other community needs. All funds raised by youth teams will be matched—up to $2,000 per project—on a one-to-one basis by the fund. “We’re hoping that the youth philanthropy program will encourage young people to be engaged in their communities and to learn what their local nonprofits and service organizations do,” West Marin Fund President Dick Lemon said. “Ultimately we’d like the program to create future leaders who have experienced the deep satisfaction that comes from altruism and giving to others.” Guidelines and application forms can be downloaded at westmarinfund.org/programs/youth-philanthropy-program or by calling the fund at (415) 669.9733. Applications will be accepted until December 1.
