Evocative depictions of marine algae, a brief tale of a sensitive rancher, a moving poem about a man in a rocking chair, and a description of the world—“Small, sweet, one of many others. But it is our world”— are just a few of the highlights in the new volume of the West Marin Review, a compendium of prose, poetry and art. The review, published since 2006 in a collaborative effort between Point Reyes Books and a five-person steering committee, features a number of local writers and artists, though contributors aren’t limited to West Marin. The review’s launch party is next Sunday, on Aug. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Dance Palace Community Center. The bash will feature readings by contributors, music, refreshments and an art exhibit. The deadline for submissions for the next volume is September 1.
