The Tomales High School Braves are back for a new school year and they’re bringing two new coaches with them. Edie Nelson will head girl’s varsity volleyball, while Luiz Salerno, hailing from Peru, will head soccer, a sport that hasn’t been fielded for boys in two years and girls in one year. While Tomales High Athletic Director Chris Helfer was disappointed to cancel the first soccer game against Calistoga next week, he’s thrilled that students will be back on the field. “I had 17 boys on the roster in the spring, for the girls I think the numbers were about the same,” he said. “There’s a lot of absences during this first week of school, but once school starts we’ll be able to corner them.” Varsity and junior varsity football teams have also begun daily practice. See the calendar in this newspaper for listings of all games.
