West Marin’s producer of high-end olive oil, McEvoy Ranch, is planning to expand its brand into wine made with grapes grown in between its olive trees. “The project came out of the idea of pairing wine and food in a natural way,” said Ranch Manager Dick Nielsen. The 550-acre ranch, located on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, has a shop in San Francisco’s Ferry Building and 80 acres of olive trees. Ranch workers have begun planting pinot noir grapes and will introduce a mix of other varieties over time. McEvoy hopes to harvest enough grapes for three to 400 cases of wine later this year. “It’s a small project and we’re just trying to expand the brand and make a little revenue,” Nielsen said.
