West Marin libraries plan to reopen the week of April 19. Through a new express, limited-capacity service, browsers will be allowed to linger up to 30 minutes while abiding by safety precautions at the Point Reyes, Inverness, Stinson Beach and Bolinas libraries, and curbside service will continue. The Marin County Free library has taken a cautious approach throughout the pandemic, with appointment-only, in-person services available only for a short stint last fall before Covid-19 cases rose. Some library employees were deployed as disaster workers during the past year, while others kept up virtual programming and curbside services. Currently, the library is conducting a national search for a new director, after Sara Jones left in February to take a position in Washington State; Raemona Little Taylor, who managed the West Marin branches, was recently promoted to deputy director, leaving another opening. Gabriella Calicchio, who has directed the county’s department of cultural services since 2014, is filling the director role on an interim basis. She is excited about reopening. “There are so many programs we do to engage peoples’ curiosity and get them reading, using reading as a way for people to explore the world,” she said. “It’s a really exciting time, and it’s a really exciting time to build on these partnerships and collaborations.”
