A homeowner in Lagunitas foiled a brazen midday burglary on Monday, leading to the arrest of two suspects while a third remains at large. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office reported on Tuesday morning that the break-in took place around noon at a residence on Corona Avenue. During the attempted burglary, the homeowner managed to detain one of the two suspects after being punched, while the other fled in a silver Ford Taurus driven by a third suspect. Approximately 15 minutes later, the Central Marin Police Authority responded to a report of a reckless driver in a matching vehicle at the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Francisco Boulevard in San Anselmo, about eight miles away. After police stopped the vehicle near Terrace Avenue, a male suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. The driver was taken into custody. Shalaya Cherry, a 29-year-old resident of Marin City, and Clarissa Anderson, a 25-year-old transient from San Rafael, were arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on charges of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, officials said. Bail was set at $200,000 each. Despite collaboration between multiple police departments, including air support from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the third suspect has so far eluded law enforcement. He is described as a light-skinned Black man last seen wearing shorts. Following the traffic stop near Terrace Avenue, the Marin County Office of Emergency Management issued a shelter-in-place order for residents near the border between San Anselmo and San Rafael. The order was lifted about an hour later, around 2:45 p.m. Several other burglaries were reported in San Geronimo Valley on Monday and are being investigated in conjunction with the foiled attempt. In Woodacre, a cat sitter returned to her cousin’s house on Buckeye Circle to find a shattered glass sliding door. In Lagunitas, another resident on Corona Avenue came home to discover their place ransacked. Sargent Adam Schermerhorn of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said all three burglaries are believed to be connected, but no definitive link has been confirmed.
