Next month, Inverness Foundation board member Jerry Meral will begin collecting signatures for a wildfire prevention measure that will levy a parcel tax expected to generate $250,000 annually to fund projects like fuel breaks and vegetation removal. On Wednesday, the Inverness Public Utility District board agreed it would not recommend further changes to Mr. Meral’s draft.
“This is not necessarily an endorsement, but it’s simply that it resolved our issues, so Jerry is welcome to move forward,” IPUD board member Dave Press said. In June, the board will likely certify it for the November ballot. The measure now has an informational website: www.invernessfireprevention.org.
