A human body allegedly wrapped in a tarp was discovered by a motorist on Platform Bridge Road last Friday evening, triggering an investigation by the National Park Service with assistance from the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.

The remains, seen down an embankment above Lagunitas Creek,  according to Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman, were first reported at 5:40 p.m.

According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office press log, the caller told dispatchers he or she could see pink pants on the victim, who appeared to have “been there for a while.”

Search and rescue workers from Sonoma and Contra Costa Counties joined local law enforcement to sweep the area.

John Dell’Osso, a spokesman for the Point Reyes National Seashore, which oversees the land where the body was discovered, said the identity could be determined by the end of the week.

In 2013, the body of Trisha Hopfe, a 31-year-old East Bay woman, was discovered east of Platform Bridge Road, in a ravine off Sir Francis Drake
Boulevard.
