There will no longer be issues of the Marin Independent Journal (IJ) for sale in racks or stores in Coastal Marin. Circulation manager Charles Long cited the “economics of the situation,” including plummeting sales, as the principle cause. But just this spring, an article published by the daily stated that its 30,000 circulation, combined with over 2 million monthly website views, “means the IJ’s readership has never been greater.” The decision is part of recent management shuffle, in which David M. Rounds, who has in the past published the Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune, replaced Mathew Wilson as publisher. Rounds was unavailable for comment on his appointment or the changes in circulation. Home delivery of the IJ, which piggybacks with that of the San Francisco Chronicle, will still take place, Long said. Retail and box locations in the San Geronimo Valley will also continue to be serviced.
