The Village Snipper needs your help. Barbara Keady, the Point Reyes Station hairdresser who for decades has provided locals with quality cuts and a welcoming atmosphere, is seeking funds to help pay her rent after she slipped off her deck while gardening and broke her leg. A GoFundMe campaign set up by her friends Scoby Zook and Martha Proctor is collecting donations to help cover Ms. Keady’s home, workspace and living expenses.
“I’d get my haircut and listen to the very many stories she knew how to tell so well,” Mr. Zook said.
Ms. Keady told the Light that she is in good spirits and has many friends and family members supporting her. Her son, Tristan, a firefighter in Novato, has been bringing groceries; his wife, Heather, waters her plants and helps with things around the house. Amanda Eichstaedt, her neighbor at KWMR, brings her the mail from her business. Yet her inability to work has left her with no means of income until she can return to the salon.
“I never thought I’d be in a wheelchair,” Ms. Keady said. “I really prefer to be the one who can help rather than the one who needs it.”
Ms. Keady moved to Point Reyes Station in 1994 and opened The Village Snipper soon after. As a Sassoon-certified hairdresser, she is the barber of choice for many locals.
“She’s a marvelous hairdresser with a unique personality and kind heart,” Point Reyes Station resident Bobbi Loeb said. “She’s quite concerned about everybody’s hair she cuts.”
