A fire on the western flank of Black Mountain on Aug. 8 quickly grew to 40 acres and came within a half-mile of Little Wing Farm and homes on Black Mountain Ranch. Sixty firefighters worked on the ground while six planes and a helicopter battled the fire, which began about a mile west of Platform Bridge.
