A repair of the storm-damaged Fairfax-Bolinas Road began earlier this month, after a landslide partially took out a section of one lane east of Alpine and Bon Tempe Lakes during last January’s atmospheric rivers. The road, which connects West Marin to Ross Valley, is frequented by cyclists, sunset chasers and fishermen traveling to and from the reservoirs. It has been reduced to one lane since January. In addition to repairing and widening the damaged lane, the Department of Public Works will build a 230-foot-long retaining wall and install a new guardrail. The project, expected to wrap up in November, will cost roughly $2.4 million and is covered by a Federal Highway Administration grant for emergency repairs. It is one of four projects on the road that is covered by Federal Highway Administration grants; the others will take place next year. The repair is one of 13 projects countywide using emergency funding that resulted from storms last January through March.
