One of West Marin’s two gas stations could be out of service for a week, after an intoxicated driver crashed a Ford F250 into the wall of Greenbridge Gas and Auto on Tuesday, shutting down power to the fuel pumps. The truck, whose sole occupant was arrested for drunken driving, rammed into another car in the process. Gas will flow again in a week at best, according to a statement from the Point Reyes National Seashore. Sheriff’s deputies said on Wednesday afternoon that nearly a dozen people had walked into the substation in Point Reyes since the incident, desperately searching for fuel. The closest gas station is BoGas, in Bolinas, followed by stations in Novato and Petaluma. (There were once stations in Inverness, the San Geronimo Valley, Tomales and Stinson Beach, but they are all gone.) “Due to the warm days leading up to this coming weekend, I anticipate that we can expect a number of stranded motorists expressing frustration… with empty or near-empty gas tanks,” said Doug Pittman of the sheriff’s office in a press release that urged locals to prepare for their own and others’ mobility, or lack thereof.
