After a national search Marin has selected an outsider to take the helm of the Marin County Free Library. The director of the library system in Nevada’s state capital, Sara Jones, will replace Gail Haar, who led the 10-branch library for five years as the district adjusted to a period of declining state funding by asking voters to authorize a temporary parcel tax in 2010 and pressing for changes to policies that were contentious with rank-and-file employees. Ms. Jones, a veteran librarian and former director of the state library, will be paid $150,134 annually, the top of the salary range, to direct the $16-million county library system. In a statement, county officials touted Ms. Jones’ experience in Nevada, adding computers and ebooks, leveraging public-private partnerships and procuring grants for their $2-million library system.
