Point Reyes National Seashore announced the opening of the 15th season of shuttle bus transportation to the lighthouse and Chimney Rock, prime spots for watching for whales and viewing Elephant seals. The busses begin Saturday, December 29 and run through mid-April on weekends and holidays, in good weather. “Winter is a wonderful time not only to watch the annual Pacific gray whale migration from Alaska to Mexico but also to celebrate the recovering populations of Northern Elephant seals as they return to breed at Point Reyes,” Superintendent Cicely Muldoon said in a press release. Ticket sales open at 9:30 a.m. at the Ken Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach and close at 3 p.m. Children 16 and under are free, adults are $5 and Federal Senior and Access pass discounts apply. Sir Francis Drake Highway is closed at South Beach during shuttle days from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
